Teams in AYSO are formed solely on the basis of the player's age.
Division
U5/Jamboree (age under 5 on July 31)
We are excited to be starting a U5/Jamboree program specifically designed for four year olds.
Jamboree is a combination of two different formats that, put together, provides the best possible introduction
to soccer for our youngest players. Jamboree is a One-with-One program where each player works with a parent
(or other adult) on the field. More information on Jamboree is available

- A non-competitive division for players age 4
- Strong parent / adult involvement
- Age appropriate soccer activities
- No standing teams. Players are divided up into teams each week
- Sessions end with a short soccer game
- Season: 10 weeks. No post-season playoffs.
Division
U6 (age under 6 on July 31)
Under-6 soccer is a game designed especially for our youngest players.
The game is played with only four players from each team on the field at any one
time. There are no league standings, no goalkeepers, simplified field
markings, and short playing periods. The intent is to provide a team-based
environment where players develop basic ball handling skills and have Fun!
- A non-competitive division for players age 5.
- Team size is 8 or fewer, with 4 players on the field during games.
- No goalkeepers
- Every team member plays at least 1/2 of every game.
- Every team provides team parent referees.
- Team formation: By age, prior year's ratings.
- Season: 10 weeks. No post-season playoffs.
Division U8 (age under 8 on July 31)
Under-8 soccer is a game designed especially for our younger players.
The game is played with six players from each team on the field at any one time.
There are no league standings, no goalkeepers, simplified field markings, and
short playing periods. The intent is to provide a team-based environment
where players develop basic ball handling skills and have Fun!
- A non-competitive division for players aged 6 and 7.
- Team size is 12 or fewer, with 6 players on the field during games.
- No goalkeepers
- Every team member plays at least 1/2 of every game.
- Every team provides team parent referees.
- Team formation: By age, prior year's ratings.
- Season: 10 weeks. No post-season playoffs.
Division U10 (age under 10 on July 31)
Under-10 soccer brings an element of competitive league play into the game of
soccer. This division plays on medium-sized fields with reduced-size goals
where available. The league standings are based on games played in the
second half of the season with a post-season weekend tournament (weather
permitting).
- For players aged 8 and 9.
- Team size is 12 or fewer, with 9 players on the field during games.
- Every team member plays at least 3/4 of every game.
- Practices: Typically 1 or 2 per week.
- Team formation: By age, prior year's ratings.
- Season: 10 week regular season with a 2 day post-season
tournament. Tournament qualification occurs during last few regular
season games.
Division U12 (age under 12 on July 31)
Under-12 soccer is played under FIFA Laws modified as appropriate for youth
soccer (notably: a smaller ball, reduced field size and game length).
League standings are based on the entire season with a post-season weekend
tournament (weather permitting).
- A competitive division for players aged 10 and 11.
- Team size is 14 or fewer players, with 11 players on the field during games.
- Every team member plays at least 3/4 of every game.
- Regional & Area Referees.
- Practices: Typically 1-2 per week.
- Team formation: By age, prior year's ratings.
- Season: 10 week regular season with a post-season tournament.
Division U14 (age under 14 on July 31)
- A competitive division for players aged 12 and 13.
- Team size is 14 or fewer players, with 11 players on the field during games.
- Every team member plays at least 3/4 of every game.
- Practices: Typically 2 per week.
- Team formation: By age, prior year's ratings.
- Season: 10 game regular season with a post-season tournament.
Division U16, U19 (age under 16 and under 19 on July 31)
- Competitive divisions for players aged 14 through 18.
- Game location: various locations in San Mateo County.
- Practices: Typically 2 per week.
- Team formation: By age, prior year's ratings. Player
"buddy" requests are not honored.
- Season: 10 game regular season with a post-season tournament.
